How to deploy Adobe Reader with GFI LanGuard

Today I'm going to share three tips on how to deploy Adobe Reader by using GFI LanGuard's application deployment capabilities. We'll start with the deployment of the Adobe Reader installation file, and then we'll look at some of the deployment options. Finally, we'll look at how a software audit can be used to verify whether the deployment was successful or not, and how to find which machines on the network are missing Adobe Reader. Let's go ahead and get started!

To begin go to the Remediate section and choose 'Deploy Custom Software', then click on the 'Add' button and point to the Adobe Reader installation file. In the custom section, add the parameter for silent installation. Click on 'Add' and then select the target computers. Click on the 'Deploy' button on the bottom of the screen to start the deployment process. To change the deployment options, click on customize link, here. In this case we will leave the default settings, which are 'Warn user before deployment' and in the After deployment tab 'Do not reboot/shut down the computers'. You can see the progress in the 'Remediation Jobs' tab. If you turn on the remote machine, you will see the warning message that GFI LanGuard is going to deploy software. And once the deployment completes you will see that Adobe Reader was successfully installed on the target machine.

If you want to scan your network to see which machines need Adobe Reader or if you want to perform a deployment across a large number of machines, you can perform a software audit. To do this go to the 'Scan' tab, select the machines you want to scan, the 'Software Audit' scanning profile and click Scan. Once the scan starts you can see the progress in the 'Scanner Activity' window. Once the scan is complete you can select the 'Software' node to view the applications that are installed on the machine. Here you can see that Adobe Reader was successfully installed.

For an overview of the installed software on the network click on the Dashboard tab and then go to the Software tab. Thanks for watching. If you want to know more about GFI LanGuard or watch more How-to-videos click here.
