Deploy missing patches with GFI LanGuard

In this video I'm going show you how to quickly and easily deploy missing patches using GFI LanGuard.

To deploy missing security and non-security updates for Windows, Mac OS and Linux operating systems and third-party applications open the Remediate tab and select Remediation Center and select Deploy Software Updates, select the computers or computer groups where patches need to be deployed from the computers tree on the left of the screen. Multiple items can be selected using control-click.

In the Deploy Software Update screen you can see all missing updates for the selected computers with details for each update on which of the selected computers is missing. It's also possible to fine-tune the deployment by selecting or deselecting patches or computers.

We will now deploy a patch. Click the Remediate button in the bottom right corner before starting the deployment. Make sure you set the right schedule and other options such as credentials. You can configure the pre deployment options from here by clicking Customize. The wake up LAN feature can be used to turn on computers if they are offline. The custom message can be shown to the end users to warn them about the deployment operation that can slow down their computers and might require a reboot at the end. After deployment options mainly consist in specifying how the reboot of the updated machines will be handled. Administrators can decide to reboot, not to reboot immediately or reboot at a later specified time or give them control to the end-user on when to reboot.

A count down message can be shown with X amount of minutes before the reboot to warn end users to save their work for the cases where administrators want to reboot as soon as possible and don't want to wait for the end users. The deployment progress is shown in the Remediation Jobs screen.

The patch needs to be downloaded first. It is now being deployed, I choose not to reboot but LanGuard warns me that a reboot is required in order to finalize the deployment.

I hope you found this video useful be sure to check out our other GFI LanGuard videos. Thanks for watching.
