Faxes can be sent through GFI FaxMaker by specifying the fax number within the email address as follows:
The recipient details can also be included when addressing the fax. This can be achieved by addressing the fax as follows:
For the number@domain method to work, you need to confirm that GFI FaxMaker is set to use this method. Proceed as follows:
Open Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
Browse to: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GFI Fax & Voice\FaxMaker\Config\E2FG]
Under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GFI Fax & Voice\FaxMaker\Config\E2FG]
locate the DWORD value: aliasatserver
Ensure that the Value data for ‘aliasatserver’ is set to 1. Example: aliasatserver = 1
Restart the GFI FaxMaker Message Transfer Agent Service.
This method of sending will work with mail servers which support additions of foreign domains and also the forwarding of these domains.
In Microsoft Exchange 2000/2003, setup of the GFI FaxMaker domain is configured in the Microsoft Exchange SMTP connector used for GFI FaxMaker. More information about this can be found in the GFI FaxMaker user manual under the section: ‘The Exchange 2000/2003 Connector’
Lotus Notes can be setup to use the number@domain functionality. Details about this can be found in the GFI FaxMaker manual under the section “Configuring GFI FaxMaker for Lotus Notes - Add the FAX Foreign Domain”
To be able to use the number@domain functionality with other mail servers, you must ensure that the mail server supports forwarding. This is quite a common feature in standard SMTP mail servers like VPOP3. Kindly consult the documentation of your mail server.
If your email server does not support forwarding of emails for the fax domain, you can still make use of this method. In this case, you will need to configure a new profile in your email client just for sending faxes. This profile needs to be configured to send emails directly to the machine running GFI FaxMaker. When the user needs to send a fax, he will need to make use of this profile.
Information on how to change the delimiters when addressing the fax can be found in the knowledge base article: here.
If this registry key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GFI Fax & Voice\FaxMaker\Config\E2FG/aliasatserver]
is set to 1 and the number@domain method is used, the user sending the fax will get the following error message: No recipients were found in this message. Fax could not be sent.
