GFI LANguard Network Security Scanner certified OVAL-compatible
London, UK – GFI LANguard Network Security Scanner (N.S.S.), a complete network vulnerability scanning, patch management and auditing solution, has been certified compatible with the Open Vulnerability Assessment Language (OVAL) standard, providing enterprise-level security functionality to the SMB market, GFI Software today announced.
According to the FBI, 90% of all network security breaches are due to software or hardware vulnerabilities. The OVAL project, which is maintained by the MITRE Corporation and sponsored by US Department of Homeland Security, is an international information-security effort set up to promote open and publicly available security content that helps administrators identify security vulnerabilities on their networks. It seeks to standardize and consolidate vulnerability knowledge across the entire spectrum of security tools and services, thus helping organizations deal with the increasing number of security and productivity threats. In fact, security experts from around the world have already contributed over 2,000 vulnerability checks to OVAL’s database. Such a comprehensive list of vulnerabilities allows security administrators to identify more network vulnerabilities than ever before, putting them in a position to proactively manage threats rather than react to them.
GFI has incorporated OVAL checks as standard in GFI LANguard N.S.S., augmenting its scanning capabilities and ensuring that crucial vulnerabilities are detected without extensive administration overheads or user input required. GFI also saw the need to become OVAL-compatible to show its commitment to open standards and to help raise the bar for vulnerability assessment in the SMB marketplace.
As an OVAL-compatible security solution, GFI LANguard N.S.S. is unique in that it is one of the few products on the market providing enterprise-level security to the SMB space without increasing the price or compromising quality and ease of use.
