How to change the faxmaker.com and smsmaker.com domains

Applies to

  • GFI FaxMaker
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003

GFI FaxMaker allows to send a fax and a sms using the format <number>@faxmaker.com and <number>@smsmaker.com respectively. In certain situations there may arise a need to customise the default domains faxmaker.com or smsmaker.com. An example for such situation is when multiple installations of GFI FaxMaker are present in one network. Different domain entries for GFI FaxMaker would be required in order to re-direct the outbound faxes and sms to the correct GFI FaxMaker instance. In order to achieve this change, the following steps are necessary:

  1. Alter the faxmaker.com and smsmaker.com domains from the registry

  2. Add the new domains to Internet Information Services (IIS). (Required only if GFI FaxMaker is not installed on a Microsoft Exchange Server machine)

  3. Change the settings within the FaxMaker SMTP connector in Microsoft Exchange. (Required only if GFI FaxMaker is installed in Microsoft Exchange mode)

  4. Restart the GFI FaxMaker services

  5. Implement the change to the GFI FaxMaker Client installations ( if applicable)

The rest of the article explains how to implement these changes. For the purpose of this article we will change the domains as follows:

From faxmaker.com to faxdomain.com
From smsmaker.com to smsdomain.com

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe.

Implementing the changes described below means you agree that you are doing so at your own risk and that no support will be given regarding problems related to these changes.
