Which protocol does the GFI Archiver Import Export Tool use to access Microsoft Exchange?

Depending on the options chosen on the page labelled 'Microsoft Exchange Server Connection Configuration' within the Import Export Tool, a different protocol is used to access Microsoft Exchange:

MAPI - Messaging Application Programming Interface
  • GFI MailArchiver 2014 or newer
    • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or 2007 & Login as current user
    • Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 or 2010 or 2013 & Login as current user
    • Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 (MAPI /Outlook) & Use other credentials
  • GFI MailArchiver 2013
    • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or 2007 & Login as current user
    • Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP1 or 2010 & Login as current user
    • Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 & Use other credentials

EWS - Exchange Web Services
  • GFI MailArchiver 2014 or newer
    • Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 or 2010 or 2013 & Use other credentials
    • Microsoft Exchange Online (Office 365) & Use other credentials
  • GFI MailArchiver 2013
    • Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP1 or 2010 & Use other credentials

WebDav - Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning
  • GFI MailArchiver 2014 or newer
    • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or 2007 & Use other credentials

Notes:
  • When using the option "Login as current user" the user who runs the tool itself requires access to the mailboxes from where emails are to be exported
  • If calendar items are to be exported MAPI protocol must be used
