Released: May 3, 2012

Combined anti-spam and email security for total protection

GFI MailEssentials 2012 is an all-new version which combines and enhances the anti-spam functionality previously available in GFI MailEssentials 2010 and the email security functionality previously available in GFI MailSecurity 2011 to offer an integrated email protection solution. Divider

New features in GFI MailEssentials 2012 include:

New antivirus engine – GFI VIPRE

GFI MailEssentials 2012 ships with GFI VIPRE as one of the antivirus engines bundled in the product out of the box.

GFI VIPRE features MX-V, a malware analysis technology which rapidly analyzes potential malware by observing its behavior in a virtual environment for zero-day threat detection.

Advanced content filtering

GFI MailEssentials includesadvanced user-based content filtering rules that can be used for flexible and granular filtering on any part of the email message, including message headers, subject, body, attachment name and attachment content.

Administrators can use one of the pre-defined content filtering rules to block emails with credit card numbers or social security numbers.

Advanced users can also create advanced filtering rules matching a regular expression (regex), allowing them to block emails based on patterns which they define, which is much more powerful than simple keyword checking.

Integrated web-based configuration and management console for anti-spam and email security

GFI MailEssentials now features a web based configuration and management console from where one can manage all anti-spam and email security functionality in the product, including its spam and malware quarantine.

The email management features in GFI MailEssentials 2010 and prior versions have been carried forward in GFI MailEssentials 2012 with an MMC user interface with which the users of such versions are familiar.

Integrated web based reporting

GFI MailEssentials ships with integrated reporting capabilities which form part of its web-based user interface, enabling administrators to generate reports on the emails being sent and received by their organization. The reports are customizable through various options included in the reporting component.

Access control

Administrators can assign permissions to other users to review quarantined emails, receive notifications for newly quarantined emails via RSS feeds or generate reports. This can be done directly from the product’s web-based user interface. Divider

GFI MailEssentials 2012 is now available in three editions:

  • UnifiedProtection Edition: Combines anti-spam and email security functionality into one offering for comprehensive email protection.
  • Anti-spam Edition: An anti-spam solution for Exchange/SMTP/Lotus which features a spam capture rate of over 99%, with technology to dramatically reduce false positives.
  • EmailSecurity Edition: Server-based email security with up to five antivirus engines, Trojan and executable scanning, email exploit detection and HTML sanitization for unique protection.

Email management, content filtering and attachment filtering features are included in all editions.

Upgrading from GFI MailEssentials 2010, GFI MailSecurity 2011 or GFI MailDefense Suite

GFI MailEssentials 2012 supports in-place upgrades and preservation of settings for a number of previous versions of GFI MailEssentials and GFI MailSecurity.
