Email is the company’s primary mode of communication and it is important to try and reduce the amount of time spent dealing with spam to ensure maximum productivity time dealing with client queries and orders. “We had several problems with spam. We were receiving more than 3000 emails daily just from spam,” said Miguel Angel Vega Hirata, the company’s IT manager. This high dependency on email means that providing protection against viruses, malware and other malicious attacks is a critical function.
“We also had problems with security in emails (virus and spyware). We needed to regain control of our email system making it functional and secure,” he continued. GFI MailSecurity had the solution by offering multiple anti-virus engines – thus being able to react fastest to the latest virus threats by receiving the quickest virus signature updates and taking advantage of each one’s strengths because no single AV scanner can provide total protection. Moreover working in conjunction with GFI MailEssentials provided added spam and phishing protection and email management at server level.
Solution
Recognizing the need for such a product, Aurum Chemicals started looking for a software solution on the market that would suit their needs as well as being well-priced.
“We tried other solutions, mainly client based such as Symantec and McAfee, but they were not effective as it was difficult to manage a disperse solution. That was why we decided to implement a server based solution,” said Mr. Vega Hirata.
Having had unsuccessful results with previous software, Aurum Chemicals tried GFI MailSecurity, an anti-virus solution that perfectly suited our needs and GFI MailEssentials that provided the anti spam filter and email management solution that we were after.
“GFI’s products helped us by keeping us focused on business matters and not distracted by trying to keep away spam and viruses,” said Mr. Vega Hirata. “They helped us to greatly reduce the amount of spam that we used to receive, as well as secure our email and centrally administer the risks associated with email. Ultimately they give us more uptime thus resulting in more productivity with a good cost / benefit rate.”
Implementation
“Aurum Chemicals selected GFI products because they are a well known solution provider and are extremely cost effective whilst still delivering a top service,” confirmed Mr. Vega Hirata.
“We implemented both products in less than 2 hours. It was really simple. Training the Bayesian filter took about a week and it now close to flawless. We didn’t have any noticeable impact on network performance which is important to us, so I can safely say that GFI products worked just as desired”, said Mr. Vega Hirata. “Upon implementation of the product we saw a massive reduction in spam and massive increment in uptime for our email server. It has succeeded in reducing the administrative time that used to be spent combating spam and managing our email system.”
