5 out of 5 for GFI MailEssentials – In a review on OutlookExchange.com, MVP Nicolas Blank gives GFI MailEssentials 5 out of 5 and describes the software as a “solid product, which lives up to the marketing claims made by GFI”. He says the installation and use is straight forward and easy and that GFI MailEssentials “works and works well”. Blank says there are other features “however message retrieval and SPAM handling is where this product really shines”. Finally, he recommends the product for use in Exchange or generic SMTP mail based environments.

GFI MailEssentials wins IT Week Magazine’s ‘Editor’s Choice’ award – IT Week Magazine, a digital publication, has selected GFI MailEssentials for Exchange/SMTP as the 2007 Editor’s Choice winner for significantly cutting down on spam as well as for its pricing and functionality. “If your company is looking for an effective method to distinctly cut down on spam in an effective manner, then you’ll want to check out GFI MailEssentials for Exchange/SMTP. GFI MailEssentials wins Redmond Editors' Choice Awards 2005 – Redmond magazine's panel of experts have named GFI MailEssentials as the winner of the anti-spam category in the publication of their annual Editors' Choice Awards 2005. Judge Dave Tschanz singled out GFI MailEssentials for medium- to large-sized networks and praised the Bayesian filtering system, saying that it "works particularly well". He was also impressed with GFI's customer service and described the website as "exceptional" as well as being "easy to use" and containing "extraordinarily useful information".

Effective spam management application – In an article featured in a TechRepublic newsletter, GFI MailEssentials was highlighted as one of the more effective applications for managing spam. The article draws attention to the fact that managing the spam that comes into any organization "takes some sophisticated software and a lot of hard work". The feature goes on to explain how to deploy GFI MailEssentials as a mail gateway. Reviewer John. R. Kull praised various features such as Custom and DNS blacklists and the directory harvesting rules. GFI named 'preferred security provider' – In an article for SearchSMB.com, news writer Charlie Russo reported that Bradley J. Dinerman, president of the New England Information Security Group named GFI his preferred vendor for IT security software thanks to its products GFI MailEssentials and GFI MailSecurity. The article explained how security has now become an issue for SMBs “because of pressure to comply with government regulations intended for larger companies, like the Sarbanes-Oxley Act”. The article advises SMBs that when planning a security purchase it is important to “consider how the new product will mesh with existing systems, and how much time and effort it will take to run everything as a whole”.

Hawker Pacific grounds spam with GFI email filtering system – ComputerWorld featured an interview with Robert Burns, Manager of Information Systems at Hawker Pacific, one of Australasia's largest commercial aviation companies, detailing how the company overcame its problem with spam after installing GFI MailEssentials and GFI MailSecurity. Mr. Burns said he was "monumentally impressed" with the products which he found "easy to implement and quick". The company chose "GFI MailEssentials for spam filtering, and GFI MailSecurity for filtering email-borne viruses, worms, and trojans." GFI MailEssentials named "hot product" – Windows IT Pro Magazine reader, Stephen Koning of Calgary, Canada highly praised GFI MailEssentials for Exchange/SMTP in the magazine's What’s Hot section. The publication reported that the reader nominated GFI MailEssentials as “a product that helps him do his job better”. He said: “Recently, when I arrived at my desk after being away all weekend, I had received 865 email messages. GFI Mail Essentials correctly identified 811 of the messages as spam and placed them in my spam folder rather than my Inbox. High score for GFI MailEssentials – Reviewer by David W. Tschanz reviewed GFI MailEssentials as one of 10 anti-spam solutions in an article for Redmond magazine entitled "Stop Spam Now". GFI MailEssentials scored highest together with another two software solutions. The reviewer describes each product's main spam filtering method, Bayesian filtering being GFI MailEssential's strong point as well as its use of whitelists, blacklists and a DNS blacklist. The reviewer also states: "GFI's MailEssentials has a well-developed and easy-to-use reporting system that covers the key aspects of anti-spam activity. The product was named Windows IT Pro Editor's Choice. The reviewer, John Green, compared five server-based anti-spam software products that integrate with Microsoft Exchange Server. The bomb – In a GFI MailEssentials review on FileForum.BetaNews.com, reviewer ComputerDoc described it as "the bomb". The review explained how they were receiving "4,000-5,000 emails for 35 people with only 1,000 emails being valid". The review praised the fact that GFI MailEssentials allows them to "set up a junk email folder on all 35 clients no matter which version of MS Outlook they are running" which means that all his "users are happy!".

He highlights the improved whitelist filtering features such as the creation of whitelists that are based on keywords. "Another cool thing about GFI MailEssentials 10 is the way that it makes use of public folders," he says, describing how users can easily whitelist someone themselves by dragging a message to a public folder or a junk mail folder, thereby helping "the Bayesian filter become smarter". This gives "users a way to recover mail themselves" without needing to burden the administrator.The reviewer also suggests that "one of the best improvements with version 10 is how it handles mail: It archives mail to an SQL server".

Panthers blitzes spam with GFI MailEssentials – An article on Australian magazine Computerworld discusses how Panthers Entertainment, the "Penrith-based gaming and entertainment giant" has seen "significant productivity gains" since using GFI MailEssentials. Journalist Helen Han reported that previously, Panthers employees had to sift through hundreds of spam emails per day, thus reducing productivity. Posey named GFI MailEssentials as his "personal favorite" due to its "really practical methods for catching spam" and awarded it 9 marks out of a possible 10. He particularly likes the product's ability to block spam on the basis of character set, its whitelist and blacklist features, its spam handling capabilities and its generation of fake delivery receipts - "The idea is that if you can trick the sender into thinking that your E-mail address is bad then there is a really good chance that you will be removed from the sender's mailing list".
