Independent lab VeriTest verifies that intrusion detection tool meets 'Certified for Microsoft Windows' logo specifications
London, UK, 14 February 2002 - GFI announced today that its LANguard Security Event Log Monitor (S.E.L.M.), a host-based intrusion detection system that protects enterprise networks against both internal and external security threats, has passed certification tests confirming its compatibility, interoperability and reliability with Microsoft Windows 2000. The test results qualify LANguard S.E.L.M. to carry the "Certified for Microsoft Windows/Windows 2000 Server" logo.
The tests were conducted by VeriTest, a business unit of Lionbridge Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: LIOX), utilising test procedures established by Microsoft. VeriTest is the sole authorized certification lab for applications running on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. The full VeriTest report can be downloaded at http://www.veritest.com/mslogo/GFI_LANguard_Sreport.pdf.
LANguard S.E.L.M. identifies internal and external security breaches by monitoring the security event logs of all Windows NT/2000 servers and workstations in real time. It consolidates all failed logons and other documented incidents into a central log that eliminates time-consuming one-by-one examination of each machine, immediately alerts administrators about critical breaches, and provides detailed reports and tips for interpreting events and analyzing trends. These capabilities - not available in any other intrusion detection system - overcome the limitations of traditional network-sniffing products that are impaired by switches, IP traffic encryption, high-speed data transfer and/or the need to compare traffic to an attack pattern database that is regularly outdated by new methods of gaining unauthorized entry.
The Windows 2000 certification ensures system administrators that LANguard S.E.L.M. operates without compromising the integrity of Windows 2000 functions, including install/uninstall, user interface and security services features.
"Last year, network administrators reported a 200% increase in computer security incidents over 2000, and 80% of those attacks originated from inside the firewall," said Nick Galea, CEO of GFI. "Our LANguard S.E.L.M. offers the ability to identify these violations in real time as well as perform in-depth analysis on issues ranging from which machines are attacked most frequently to which users are creating too many events such as failed logons or failed object access. This certification with Windows 2000 provides quality assurance for customers who wish to maximize protection of their networks."
"VeriTest has completed rigorous testing on GFI LANguard to ensure that it meets the stringent certification standards set out in Microsoft's Certified for Windows 2000 program," said Jim Bampos, senior vice president, VeriTest. "GFI's certification ensures their solution delivers new levels of reliability, interoperability and manageability when running on Windows 2000 Server, thereby reducing cost of ownership for their customers."
