London, UK, 7 March 2001 - GFI, leading developer of email security & anti-virus software, expressed surprise that organizations are still being infected by script viruses such as the new email worm, NakedWife, when surefire protection against such viruses exists in the form of server-based email content checking. The company announced that NakedWife, AnnaKournikova, the Love Bug and all future and past variants of such email viruses can be blocked at server level by Mail essentials, GFI's email content checking and anti-virus solution.

"Such email viruses can easily be stopped through server-based content filtering. This has been the case ever since VBS viruses first appeared. It is surprising to see one script virus after another still entering and infecting corporate mail servers when such a simple remedy exists," said Nick Galea, GFI CEO. "With Mail essentials, blocking this virus is easy: Just set Mail essentials to block VBS attachments in the Content Checking tab and this will protect against any incoming/outgoing infected mail. Naked Wife is an email worm that tries to send itself out to all the recipient's Outlook mailing lists, once activated. It is a highly harmful virus, as it also attempts to delete various file types from the Windows directory. However, its format is simply a variation of previous script viruses and, as such, it can easily be blocked at server level by a content checking solution like Mail essentials.
