What's On Your Network?
Jul 07, 2006
Not only has there been a proliferation of IP-addressable devices on the network but also exponentially growing traffic thanks to Web-based applications. How many times has the enterprise network slowed to a crawl only to have IT discover that users have installed the trendiest bandwidth hog, such as streaming media and peer-to-peer networks trading music and movies? Or worse yet, thanks to vulnerabilities and bugs in popular communication apps such as AIM and Skype, many corporate networks are left open to attack. And if traffic on the wire weren't enough, add in wireless IP traffic. Source: Processor

Portable storage devices invite big problems
Apr 10, 2006
Small storage devices are inexpensive, ubiquitous, easy to use ? and easy to lose. For business IT departments, that constitutes a potentially serious security problem. A $30 Universal Serial Bus Flash drive casually misplaced in a restaurant or airport lounge may contain sensitive data that can leave a company vulnerable to a rival, or a lawsuit. In one much-publicized case, a former employee of a major financial institution unwittingly sold on eBay a wireless handheld device containing an ex-employer's customer list. Source: SearchSMB.com
