I read up a little on steganography and was under the impression that one could only embed and extract using tools specifically for steganography. What you have outlined is rather scary and I have a few questions to ask:

1. Am I to assume that the simple archive program you mention could be winrar or winzip?

2. Even under the method you have outlined that (atleast) a special program would still be needed to extract the file?

Lastly I just have one general question to ask in regard to steganography: If a virus was embedded using steganography using either the method you described or otherwise would an antivirus be able to detect it?
