The most vulnerable aspect of an organization is not its network, but in user behaviour. That’s why I’m all for strict monitoring and enforcement of acceptable usage policies. When I say, strict, I mean that nobody should be immuned from the disciplinary provisions in that policy.
Oftentimes, human resources are linient with managers and those in the upper echelons of the organization and must then let them be in their unacceptable web browsing practices. This should not be! Even managers and all those who are deemed to be indispensable in an organization should be metted with sanctions if they violate.
This is the only way that the policy will be respected.
Prevention is always way, way better than the cure. Plus, it’s cheaper, too. Weren’t we taught that as children?
Yes, prevention can be costly but when you get hit by malware, it’s much, much more expensive and certainly more tedious to deal with. Or maybe those who refuse to invest in malware and spam filtering systems should see this video so they’ll realize the risk.
