Seeing sites tailor their advertisements more and more based on my browsing habits (sometimes confusingly so), I know it’s only a matter of time before phishing attempts become most common through algorithmic automations. I’ve never been in the business of clicking banner ads, but if the product is directly mentioned by name in the ad, do a search for it instead, see what turns up without blindly putting yourself in potentially hazardous territory.

Really? Why can’t site owners not have the ability to control the web banners that go up on their websites? Why and how so?

How so disconcerting for those reputable companies who become instruments of malvertising.

Me? I rarely click on ads. If a service or product interests me, I search for it. At least, I don’t just get the link to that product’s website, I get results on forums talking about that product, too. Now I know it is also a good practice against malvertising. I encourage people to do so also. And if we ever know of any specific banner ad that is malicious, I’ll spread the word with others.
