An Ode to Technology – Win an iPad in our V-Day Competition

on February 8, 2011

Competition is now closed

Does Patch Tuesday make your heart beat rapidly? Do you get sweaty palms at the thought of new hardware shipments coming in? Do you have difficulty finding the words that accurately express how you feel about your 1-on-1 time with your Exchange server?

Yes?

Brilliant, because that’s what we need to hear about in our Valentine’s Day Competition.

How to Enter

Write a short, simple ORIGINAL poem about the technology that gets your heart racing, and not necessarily in a good way! It can be dedicated to any technology that you like, so if, for example, virtualization is what gives you palpitations, write about it!

The poems must be no shorter than 2 lines, but can be as long as you want. It doesn’t need to be complicated, just fun.
Here are some examples to get you started (these are examples and cannot be used as entries in the competition).

  • Exchange Server you are my life,
Although with you there’s lots of strife,
I’m so glad you’re not my wife!
  • Patch Tuesday you drive me crazy
    My life’s become all hazy
When you patch away all day
    My mind begins to stray
But I know it’s cause you care
To keep me free of malware

You can be as creative as you want, however, all entries must abide by our Terms and Conditions (listed below) in order to be eligible for the competition.

All entries must be submitted in the comment form at the bottom of this blog post to be eligible to win the prize.

The Prize

It’s an Apple iPad! Need we say more?!

The competition ends on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2011 at midnight CET.

It makes me smile when I think how all
The technology has changed since I was small
From 3 channels, a black and white television
And what to watch was an easy decision

Games weren’t electric, were played on boards
For music we had radio and vinyl records
A new one on dad’s pay day with luck
But then… but then… but then… oh no the needle’s stuck!

Colour came to TV, then channels four and five
A video player was next to arrive
We didn’t have to watch what was on anymore
There were hundreds of films at the video store

Computer consoles – Atari and Commodore
Were better than anything we’d seen before
Loading games from a tape (we had quite a stash)
It took 20 minutes and then it would crash

After records came tapes, we could make our own
And then CDs – what a milestone
Indestructible they said, oh how they were wrong
A blooming great scratch through my favourite song

DVD, Blu-ray and high definition
Surround-sound and home cinema have improved television
3D TV is the latest, it’s true
To feel like characters are in the room with you

The internet now is the gift of our time
Shopping, music downloads and films all online
Facebook, twitter, I could videocall Rome
All in comfort, without leaving my home

Now I’ve enjoyed reminiscing today
And wondering what else is coming our way
I know all expectations it will certainly exceed
As technology changes at such a high speed

Roses are Red, Tulips are too
My macbook completes me, I love you

Roses are Red, Daisys are white
Macbook tells me, it won’t be alright

Roses are red, violets are blue
My laptop’s too poorly, I need something new

Roses are red, grass is green
I need something, with a touch screen

Roses are Red, Bluebells look sad
My macbook advises, for me an I-Pad

Roses are Red, Yellow is Hay
I hope you have, a Great Valentine’s Day!

It’s Valentine’s day and I’m home alone, wishing I had a girl to call my own.

Wake up in the morning gotta get up fast, turn to my right to snooze my Sony Dash.

Hop into my car heading straight to work, the sun is out so shiny and bright, I’m wondering if this is the day I meet Mrs.Right.

Maybe one day, I’ll meet that perfect girl, but in the mean time, I”ve got an iPhone to rock my world.

Xoom, Playbook, Touchpad, they creep into my head, give me evil thoughts of being bad. No worries though, I’ve always been faithful, and you’ll always be my true love……. iPad.

When I was young I had a blue tooth
So I went to the dentist in fear
Now lots of people seem to have one
And they keep them behind their ear!!

Some people boast they have a Blackberry
They even buy them for their child
But I prefer a blackberry
When its growing in the wild

When using new technology
I really am a proper dizz
Not at all like my son-in-law
Who is a proper wizz

When he is expaining things
I must get on his wick
He doesn’t lose his temper
Even tho I am so thick!

Amy Ewald February 14, 20114:37 pm

Oh my dear sweet Exchange Server
How you make my heart quiver
When I install updates
and your reboot hesitates
After 10 minutes you finally restart
and it restores the beat of my heart!

Rich Gibbons February 14, 20115:37 pm

There is a company called Apple
With whom Microsoft must grapple
There companies and devices
Can be very divisive
For their consumer man toys
Both have their fan boys
Of the 2 Steves, Ballmer is my lad
So sshhh…don’t tell him I won an iPad

:-)

I’m sorry for our fighting
I know it wasn’t your fault
I was a very bad friend to you
When I unleashed my full assault

I know you didn’t like it
And I know that it’s a drag
But it’s not my fault my computer’s great
And my war game doesn’t lag.

I really don’t know how I used to cope without Internet
I can’t remember my life before my phone

But what really matters to me the most
Is how well you cope with roxio toast
This is an ode to my iMac-I love you.

David February 14, 20117:27 pm

Like Spock to my Kirk
You Vulcan nerve pinched my heart
I less than three you.

Happy <3 Day!

David February 14, 20117:30 pm

We met in a chat room
Where love can fully bloom
Sure the World Wide Web is great
But you, you make me “salvavate”

Yes I love technology
But not as much as you, you see
But I still love technology
Always and forever

Our love is like a flock of doves
Flying up to heav’n above
Always and forever
Always and forever

Yes, your love is truly great
Always and forever

Crissy Durst February 14, 20117:39 pm

I wake in the morn
My heart is then torn

Which device will it be
My PC or my Wii

My heart beats steady
My fingers are ready

Should I surf the web
Or play games in bed

I don’t know how I’d survive
If technology wasnt alive.

Can’t imagine life before?
I discovered Mosaic in 1994.

This new technology they called the Internet.
I marveled at the amount of information I could get.
I remember I couldn’t wait for the next day!
To rush to the computer lab so I could play.
I felt like the browser was there for me to command.
To find any information at an instant on my demand!

Can’t imagine life before?
I discovered Mosaic in 1994.

When I graduated from college I was really sad.
I felt like I lost the best friend I ever had!
But then I discovered Netscape and Yahoo.
Oh how excited I was and my heart raced too!
Now I could get the Internet at home!
With a modem and service I was ready to roam.

Can’t imagine life before?
I discovered Mosaic in 1994.

Now lets jump to present day 2011.
My love for the Internet still puts me in heaven!
I have now moved to mobile devices.
To stream to me my info and vices.
I can’t imagine what my life would be.
As the Internet is now a part of me!

Can’t imagine life before?
I discovered Mosaic in 1994.

Valentine’s Day,
Brought none to play.

Yet tonight,
Ends my plight.

It’s just you and me,
Dear PS3.

Catriona M February 15, 201112:55 am

Ode to my laptop

Laptop how I adore thee,
let me list the ways
When there’s nothing on TV
You give me games to play

Though winter is cold and nights are long,
you have the multimedia capabilities to play my favourite song
Though friends are faithless, there’s no one in sight,
I can download a movie, you got the gigabytes

When I run out of electricity,
can’t even have a cup of tea,
you save me from insanity
because you have your own battery

Dearest iPad, best tablet of them all,
I keep dreaming of you at each visit to the mall!
Every day makes my fingers feel ever so lonely
For every night they dream of touching a device designed so lovely!

Each work days on a Windows laptop brings pain
Because no matter how hard it tries, its interface remains vain!
Steve Ballmers can keep despising your technologies
I know that in the end, you’ll keep all the glories!

Android, this cute little robot,
Does make some noise with its fans working on their plot,
But iPad of my dreams you stay above and strong
With your many apps, you simply can’t be wrong!

Tonight a day ends without your destined company,
Tomorrow GFI will understand that only together can there be harmony!
While I finish this poem on a heavy laptop feeling sad
I keep hope that soon I’ll be blessed with a new iPad!

Joe Hansen February 15, 20116:38 am

Booting up my old windows 98
Pull up a recliner and do the long, long wait

My dear old laptop, it weighs a ton
Lugging it around makes my spinal cord go numb

How I’ve longed for an iPad, sleek and thin
Silvery beauty, for valentine’s day I’d love to win!

Dori Olson February 15, 20116:50 am

This contest is ending
So I will be sending
this so fast it’s blending
I hope the winner’s not already pending
For the iPad I’m swooning
Virtual Piano App I hope to be tuning
In the night of the full mooning
with my new beautiful iPad!

Ugh, not polished, but an entry nevertheless!
Is CET Central Time?
