I definitely agree with you. Unfortunately with the human factor involved, there is always going to be that element of risk (simply because by way of nature people are so unpredictable!).

However, what organizations CAN and NEED to do is be aware of these insider threats and do their utmost to minimize them by way of technology (as described in the article above), user education and, as simple as it sounds, keeping employees happy.

I also remember reading somewhere that 80 per cent of all security attacks are from the inside and it struck me a lot but it is easy to understand that angry employees can exploit every security hole to do nasty things. And actually I don’t believe that internal security threats can be reduced substantially – if you have people who want to hit you, no policy will prevent them from doing it.
