By eliminating the need to manually filter, delete, and (sometimes) read junk mails in your email account and having to constantly update to the latest version of the email platform are two of the many reasons hosted anti-spam techniques are becoming top-notch in business environments. And with thousands of organizations virtually jumping on to the cloud computing (hosted anti-spam is a variant of the Cloud) bandwagon, it’s only a matter of which hosted anti-spam package to choose.

But let’s not forget that this technology can still be considered as an infant. There will be more features and tools up ahead.

I think that soon hosted anti-spam will become as popular as site hosting itself. In the beginning, when there were no good hosting providers, or they were very expensive, companies hosted their sites in-house. But later, when the hosting market matured, it is more an exception than a rule to have your company’s site hosted in-house. Sooner or later, the same will happen with anti-spam – just a matter of time.

Hosted anti spam’s independent junk email quarantine feature is a must-tool not only for large enterprises but also to small-medium sized businesses (SMBs or SMEs) as well. Although spam level has dropped last year – according to Mashable and Symantec Cloud, EACH of us should still be wary enough about our own email usage.

Not completely relying to our email administrator is good start. It will show that we can take care of our own junk email problems, which can then translate to a more empowered email user.

Never mind the latest and best technologies, email continuity, automation and full administrative powers – it all comes down to money and time.

Money and time really matter. In this day and age where recession and constant financial problems keep arising, organizations should value IT assets that does not only deliver – but also has some cost-effectiveness in mind.

There are, of course, caveats to outsourcing any aspect of your business to another group, but the important thing is determining whether or not the benefits outweigh the disadvantages for your particular needs. Hosted anti-spam is a pretty safe bet most of the time, but get a good feel for how satisfied the host’s other clients are first.
