Nice list Christina. Thank you for this. This must have taken you days to compile, and I appreciate you for that.

I’m an office manager and I’ve used some of the tools mentioned here, specifically the ExtraSpy Employee Monitor. I’ve used it to monitor and not “spy” on my employees. In this day and age, it’s really a must to use this kind of software for you and your company’s own good. Prevention is better than cure.

I’m also thinking of using the Cyberx Password Generator Pro. I have tons of accounts, I need a tool that can generate a more secure passwords for each one of them.

Bob morton from Florida August 2, 20117:21 pm

I did not know that Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer is still active. I’ve used it before to my Windows XP laptop. I’m now a switcher – from PC to Mac. Does anyone know an app or a simple program that can check insecure Mac updates or detect missing versions? I’m still new to Mac.

I think all the programs mentioned above are only compatible to Windows? Can you confirm this Christina? Thanks in advance.

Christina Goggi August 4, 20119:20 am

Hi Bob,

Patch Management for the MAC platform depends mostly on your needs. If you do not require anything fancy MAC OS X comes with its own software update system. You can read more about this at: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1338

If you’re looking for a more Enterprise solution you might want to check out: Tivoli Endpoint Manager for Security and Compliance or the Casper suite.

Hope this helps.

Andrew1983 August 8, 20113:05 am

Bob, Mac computers are not usually used to manage networks, websites, or any other kind of system. That’s why you seldom see admin tools designed for Mac machines or Mac operating systems. To be safe, sure, and secure, go back to using PCs.

PCs are more superior in administering security systems, networks, printers, websites / webpages, remote connections, remote desktops, virtual box and virtual machines, DNS, databases, etc.

I’ve always been a fan of Apple but I never owned Macs for more than a year because of some compatibility issues with most admin tools.

Rene Mau August 13, 20116:23 pm

Hi, i would like you to include the Branch Office Monitor. The BROFMON is a very easy but powerful tool (script-collection) to monitor the Active Directory (builtin) or other services within a windows environment.

Jared Haquin October 18, 201111:41 pm

I love filezilla as well as mediafire. I haven’t heard of most the others but I will have to check them out. See if they can make my life any easier ;)
